What is Vacuum Packing?

Vacuum packing is a procedure of packaging that eliminates the air inside the package before sealing an item. This procedure includes placing things in a plastic package which is made of film, eliminating the air inside it and lastly, sealing the package. Sometimes, shrink film is put to use to tightly fit the contents inside. The main objective of vacuum packing is mainly to remove the oxygen from the package to extend the lifespan of the contents and sometimes to reduce the volume of the package.

Types of Vacuum Packaging Machine

  1. Single Vacuum Packaging Machine

These types of machines need the entire item to be placed within the machine. Typically, a plastic bag is used for sealing every type of item. Once the item is positioned inside the machine, the lid is closed and the air is eliminated. Then, the heat seal emitted by the machine itself will seal the contents entirely. When the items are finally sealed, the machine inside is then filled with air again automatically when the vent is opened on the outside. This oncoming pressure presses all the leftover air in the bag. The lid of the machine is then opened and the packaged bag is removed. This process is mainly used for low to medium volume packaging.

  1. Double Vacuum Packaging Machine

These machines need the entire product to be put in a plastic bag and then placed within the machine. Once it is positioned inside the machine on the seal bar, the lid is closed and the air is eliminated. Then a seal bar which is inside the machine will seal the contents in the bag, and after the bag is sealed, the machine is then refilled with air automatically as the vent is opened to the outside. This forcing pressure will push out all the leftover air in the bag. The lid is then opened and the bag is now removed. Double vacuum packing machines are primarily used for medium volume packaging. They also have the ability to vacuum pack liquids. Double vacuum packing machines are commonly used to package the following items:

  • Fresh meat
  • Processed meat
  • Hard cheese and soft cheese
  • Candy
  • Chocolate

There is also another type of vacuum packaging machine which is commonly used.

External Sealers

These machines help in sealing the items by a bag being attached to the vacuum packing machine externally. The machine eliminates the air and packs the bag, which is entirely an external process. Commonly, a heat sealer is used to seal the bag.
